Scaling & root planing (SC&RP) is an initial treatment for a person who has gum disease. SC & RP or
"deep clean" can be done under local anesthesia and can take up to 30 minutes per quadrant for
the person who has heavy deposits. This treatment is recommeded for person with the pocket depth (PD)
5 mm. or less. For those who have 6mm. or deeper pocket depth need further treatments which will
be discussed later.
Periodontal Recall Program: SC & RP is also recommended for persons who have had active periodontal treatments and moved to periodontal recall program. The period of recall depends on the patient's ability to maintain his or her oral hygiene but not exceed 6 months.
